Established in 1952, Xian International Studies University is one of the earliest four institutions of extraordinary learning established to offer foreign languages in the new China. It is also the only government-run institution of higher learning to offer foreign languages in the northwest.
The University has 19 schools and faculties that run 30 specialties under 4-year programs and also coordinates with two foreign universities to train undergraduates for a doctoral degree. The University has an enrollment of 18,000 students, of whom full-time regular students under 4-year programs account for 9,721, postgraduates for MA reach 633 and international students are 517, and a staff of 765 full-time teachers. In addition, every year 50 overseas experts and teachers are invited. It has founded amicable inter-collegiate exchanges with 75 colleges and universities from 35 countries, like USA, Japan, Germany, France and Russia.
