Established in 1968 to foster epidemiologic research, the Society for Epidemiologic Research is the oldest and largest general epidemiology society in North America. Timothy Mastro, MD, FACP, DTM&H, Group Director of Global Health, Population & Nutrition, has been elected as a member of the American Epidemiological Society (AES), a select society that provides a scientific forum for senior epidemiologists. Epidemiology is the study of disease distribution and the determinants of health and disease risk in human populations. To advance the field, the AES holds free and vigorous discussions of epidemiological investigations, including a two-day annual meeting that features two distinguished lectures, sponsored debates and a series of scientific presentations. “FHI 360 proudly congratulates Tim on his election to the American Epidemiological Society,” said CEO Al Siemens. “His many contributions played an important role in shaping our current understanding of the infectious disease epidemiology, with extensive impact in the area of HIV/AIDS.”
