Royal Astronomical Society

The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) is a scholarly society that started as the Astronomical Society of London in 1820 to bolster galactic examination .It turned into the Royal Astronomical Society in 1831 on accepting its Royal Charter. A Supplemental Charter in 1915 opened up the association to ladies. It is the UK holding fast association to the International Astronomical Union and an individual from the Science Council, and empowers and advances the investigation of space science, nearby planetary group science, geophysics and firmly related branches of science. Gatherings are held in Burlington House, in London and over the United Kingdom (UK). They are included in the generation of galactic diaries and periodicals. The general public has more than 3000 individuals, around 33% of whom live outside the UK.

The RAS supports topical gatherings, a hefty portion of them in interdisciplinary zones where the gathering is together supported by another scholarly society or expert body:

  1. The Astrobiology Society of Britain (with the NASA Astrobiology Institute)
  2. The British Geophysical Association (with the Geological Society of London)
  3.  The Magnetosphere Ionosphere and Solar-Terrestrial gathering (for the most part known by the acronym MIST)
  4. The UK Planetary Forum
