American Physical Society

The American Physical Society (APS) was established on May 20, 1899 in New York, USA. It is the second largest society of physicists in the world. The American Physical Society has a renewed focus on physicists working in industry. In most recent years, the activities of the Society have developed considerably. Aroused by the rise in Federal funding in the period after the Second World War and further by the increased public involvement of scientists in the nineteen sixties, APS is active in both public and governmental affairs, and in the Global physics community. The American Physical Society (APS) is a non-profit membership organization functioning to advance and circulate the knowledge of physics through its magnificent research journals, scientific collaborations, and education, outreach, advocacy, and global activities. APS publishes 12 research journals and an open-access on-line news and commentary website globally. APS serves over 51,000 members, including physicists, laboratories, and industry in the USA and all over the world.The divisions, topical groups, forums, and sections play an important role in the Society by promoting the fulfilment of its goal. The first CEO of American Physical Society was Kate Kirby, appointed on February 5th, 2015.
