Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by episodes of reversible breathing problems due to airway narrowing and obstruction. It is long-term condition caused by environmental or genetic factors. The common triggers of asthma include pollen, tobacco, smoke, dust mite, cold air etc., symptoms of asthma are shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. Chronic asthma may lead to permanent narrowing of airways. The other associated conditions of asthma are gastro-esophageal reflux disease, rhino sinusitis, and obstructive sleep apnea. There is no cure but it can be managed with medication along with change of life style by avoiding exposure to triggering agents.
