Electroretinography Innovations

Electroretinography (ERG) is an eye test to detect the abnormal function of the retina. It measures the electrical response of various cells of retina like photoreceptors, inner retinal cells and ganglion cells. During this test electrode is placed on the cornea and on the skin near the eyes. After that electrical responses of the cells that sense light to light are measured in the retina at the back of the eye. The procedure followed for this is that the patient lies down in a comfortable position. The patient's eyes are then dilated with standard dilating eye drops. Anesthetic drops are then placed in the eyes. The eyelids are then opened with a speculum, and an electrode is gently placed on each eye with a device very similar to a contact lens. An extra electrode is also placed on the skin so as to detect very faint electrical signals produced by the retina. During an ERG recording session, the patient is made to watch a standardized light stimulus, and the resulting signal is interpreted in reference of its amplitude (voltage) and time course. Innovations are new idea, device or process. Innovations are the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, inarticulated needs or existing market needs. It is proficient through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or new ideas that are readily available to markets, governments and society. Innovations are something original and novel, as a significant, new that “breaks into” the market or society.
