Studies on fungus helps in understanding the diseases caused by melanized fungi include mycetoma, chromoblastomycosis and phaeohyphomycosis. This broad clinical spectrum depends on the dynamic interactions between etiologic agent and host. In order to study the role of immune status of the host in the development of the disease induced by Fonsecaea pedrosoi, different strains of mice and reconstituted Nude mice were inoculated with F. pedrosoi and studied clinically as well as histopathologically. The fungus was cultivated on agar gel and a fragment of this gel was implanted subcutaneously in the abdominal region.
