It is a genetic chromosomal disorder that occurs early in childhood causing intellectual and developmental disability and delay in growth physically and mentally. It also leads to various health problems. There is presence of 47 chromosomes instead of 46 and is independent of race, ethnic, economic status. It is usually identified in early stages. The distinctive facial features can be seen in Downâs syndrome children like small head, weak muscle tone, short neck etc. The diagnostic tests are present for pregnant mothers to estimate the risk of Downâs syndrome. Several treatment facilities are available for children with this syndrome.
