Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), characterized by self-renewal and pluripotency, may provide some insights into fundamental biological processes and disease modeling, thus opening the door to many important applications such as regenerative medicine and pharmaceutical development. With regard to this issue, we should be aware of the possibility that hESCs cultured in vitro may not completely reflect the physiological status of ABCG2 in vivo.
