DNA markers offer a useful tool in human clinical medicine to predict disease susceptibility and drug response. In animal science, they can be applied in marker-assisted selection, gender determination, species identification or disease diagnosis. By combining DNA microarray technology and SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) genotyping, many novel genetic markers in candidate genes have been identified. These markers offer more advantages in that they can be used for accurate animal selection and to rapidly to improve the reproductive performance over traditional breeding methods.
A journal is a periodical publication intended to further progress of science, usually by reporting new research. Most journals are highly specialized, although some of the oldest journals publish articles, reviews, editorials, short communications, letters, and scientific papers across a wide range of scientific fields. Journals contain articles that peer reviewed, in an attempt to ensure that articles meet the journal's standards of quality, and scientific validity.
