Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is described as hardening of the arteries. This occurs when walls of arteries thicken, deposit of fat take place leading to narrowing of arteries. The major cause for atherosclerosis is macrophage a type of white blood cells and fat that accumulates in the arteries. Certain factors have capacity to damage the inner walls of artery and leads to atherosclerosis includes increased blood pressure levels, high cholesterol, high sugar levels in blood, smoking etc. Areas of the damaged artery are most likely to build plaques which can break open. When this plaque breaks blood cells get accumulate at the affected region and form blood clots. The treatment includes slowing down, stopping or reversing the formation of plaques and widening the clotted arteries or by bypassing the clotted arteries. Changing the lifestyle is an effective way to prevent or reverse the cause of atherosclerosis.
