Bioremediation is a waste management technique that involves the use of organisms to remove or neutralize pollutants from a contaminated site. Sewage treatment is one of the major problems faced by municipalities. Sewage is the wastewater comprising 99.9% water and 0.1% solid particles. The domestic sewage has high amount of organic and inorganic pollutants. The untreated sewage causes foul smell. The improper disposal of sewage causes pollution and destroys the aquatic organisms due to high organic content and biological oxygen demand (BOD) concentration. So, the sewage has to be treated to reduce the environmental impact.
