Patients with sino-nasal complaints presenting to an allergists or otolaryngologists practice frequently are diagnosed with conditions including allergic rhinitis (AR) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Furthermore, patients with chronic rhinosinusitis are pheotypically classified as CRS with and without nasal polyposis (CRWwNP and CRSsNP, repspectively). There is an intuitive sense that atopy is an underlying etiologic factor in the development of CRS, particularly CRSwNP. Certainly, many patients with CRS will have atopy.
Scholarly peer review is the process of subjecting an author's scholarly work, research, or ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field, before a paper describing this work is published in a journal. The work may be accepted, considered acceptable with revisions, or rejected. Peer review requires a community of experts in a given (narrowly defined) field, who are qualified and able to perform reasonably impartial review.
