Prevalence of Hearing Loss among First Grade School Children in Tirana,Albania – A Repeated Cross-Sectional Survey

Hearing loss is becoming an issue of increasing importance worldwide. For instance, WHO world estimations of people living with hearing difficulties have risen steadily from 120 million in 1995 to 250 million in 2000 whereas in 2011 there were about 360 million living with disabling hearing loss of which 32 million were children aged 0-14 years. Increasing trends of hearing impairment were observed among youngsters as well: among adolescents aged 12-19 years it was observed an increasing prevalence of any hearing loss between 1988-1994 (14.9%) and 2005-2006 (19.5%)
