“Dua’s Layer” : Redefinition of Human Corneal Anatomy

New corneal layer was discovered by Harminder Singh Dua’s group in the year of 2013. This thin layer is said to acellular and strong layer made up of collagen bundles. The existence of this layer demands the redefining of corneal anatomy and will definitely contribute to greater understanding on deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and posterior corneal pathology. According to Dr. Guell the existence of this layer remains still controversial because of the difficulty in dissection and also its varying thickness from patient to patient. Recognition of this new layer may bring many changes in lamellar corneal surgery.
