Kinetics and Mechanism of Uncatalyzed and Ag (I) Catalyzed Oxidation of Hydroxylysine by Cerium (IV) in Acid Medium

The kinetics of the uncatalyzed and silver (I) catalyzed oxidation of Hydroxylysine with cerium (IV), has been studied in perchloric acid medium. The reaction is second order, which is first order with respect to each reactant. The mode of electron transfer has been indicated through an adduct between Ag I and hydroxylysine, via oxygen atom of the carboxyl group rather than the amino group. Uncatalyzed reaction simultaneously occurs with silver (I) catalyzed reaction and the rate law (1) conforms to all experimental data observed in the reaction
