Nursing Care Plan for Malignant Hyperthermia
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a hypermetabolic disorder of skeletal muscle and is commonly triggered by the administration of general anesthetics in susceptible individuals. Nursing staff from the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) and preoperative areas may be needed to assist, depending on the number of OR staff available and especially if the crisis occurs during the evening or night shifts. The surgeon should stop the surgical procedure as soon as possible.
