Since the granular material spreads uniformly toward the edge of the pile for the raining procedure of which the feeding orifice is as large as the base of the pile as shown in Figs. 2(b) and 3(c), the calculated granular shear stress, τps,zr, gradually increases from zero at the center of the pile with increasing the radial distance, reaches the peak at R/R0 = about 0.8 near the edge of the pile and decreases. The calculated stress ratio  indicates that the peak appears at R/R0 = about 0.85. The location of the peak does not accord with that of the shear stress peak because the normal stress, τps,zz, also affects the stress ratio
