Homology

Homology is an association defined between structures or DNA resulting from a common ancestor. Homologous traits of entities are therefore explained by ancestry from a common predecessor. The contrary of homologous organs are analogous organs which do the same jobs in two genuses that were not present in the last common ancestor but rather developed independently. An example for analogous trait would be the wings of bats and birds, which evolved independently in each family separately after separating from ancestors with forelimbs not used as wings .
