Single cell encapsulation technology is an emerging new approach for targeted delivery in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. This technology provides an effective measure to deliver cells for transplantation in vivo for the treatment of several disorders. In this study, we have synthesized chitosan nanoparticles (size 149.73 nm and zeta potential +36.5 mV), which one cationic in nature. We were able to encapsulate single living Jurkat cells using synthesized chitosan nanoparticles by coating with these nanoparticles on oppositely charged cell membrane without affecting the viability and functional properties of encapsulated cells. In vivo studies of encapsulated cell formulation showed no-toxicity in mice as it did not affect the hematological and biochemical parameters. These findings attribute to potential usefulness of this technology for delivering encapsulated cells for tissue or organ regeneration in vivo.
