Alemtuzumab in Treatment of CNS Demyelination in Multiple Sclerosis

The choice of humanized monoclonal antibody is a novel therapeutic approach for autoimmune relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). In addition to anti-alpha-4 integr in monoclonal antibody Natalizumab, introduction of CAMPATH-1 (Alemtuzumab) is a fairly new approach in MS research and clinical trials. The uniqueness of this monoclonal antibodyis that it depletes CD52 marker expressing circulatory T and B cells including monocytes and dendritic cells. However, it has no impact on progenitor cells.
