According to the expert estimates of the Russian Federation Ministry of Agriculture, the latter are responsible for 90% of the gross potato yield. While various methods (mechanical, chemical, and biological) are used to control this pest, but most of them are either inefficient (mechanical) or harmful to the environment (chemical), because, as a rule, pesticides possess no selective effect and attack harmful and useful entomofauna equally. Moreover, persisting in the environment and foodstuffs, they become a potential source of carcinogens and toxins.
