Experimental pharmacology is the division of pharmacology with an added focus on the experimental study of chemicals that requires an intimate knowledge of the biological systems being affected or under treatment. With the knowledge in the streams of cell biology and biochemistry been increasing the field of experimental pharmacology has also changed substantially. Now it has become possible through molecular analysis of the receptors on the cell surface to design chemicals that act on specific cellular signaling or metabolic pathways by affecting the sites directly on the cell-surface receptors which modulates and mediates the cellular signaling pathways and thereby controls cellular functioning. A chemical from the pharmacological point-of-view has various properties like half-life of active pharmaceutical ingredient, volume of chemical distribution, desired or toxic effects on the body, etc. A medication is said to have a therapeutic index or therapeutic window which describes the ratio of desired effect to toxic effect. Development of medication is thereby a vital concern to medicine. The metabolic stability and the reactivity of a candidate drug compound have to be assessed for drug metabolism and toxicological studies. Scholarly journal is a peer-reviewed journal in which scholarship relating to a particular academic discipline is published. Scholarly journals serve as forums for the introduction and presentation for scrutiny of new research, and the critique of existing research. Content typically takes the form of articles presenting original research, review articles, and book reviews. The term Scholarly journal applies to scholarly publications in all fields; this article discusses the aspects common to all academic field journals.
