A Novel Speed Measurement Technique and Speed Control of Five Phase BLDC Motor on a 16-Bit Microcontroller Platform

This paper describes the speed measurement of a five phase BLDC motor by frequency measurement of output pulses from rotor position sensor using Microchip PIC24HJ128GP310 microcontroller. A digital PI controller is also implemented with the proposed speed measurement method in the feedback circuit. The microcontroller generates the PWM signals with required duty cycle to run motor at the desired speed. The speed response curves for various dc supply voltages and under loaded condition are shown. The experimental results show that the proposed method is actually feasible.
