Implementation of Real-Time Remote Communication between Matlab/Simulink and Plc via Visualization Interface Developed With B&R Automation Studio

Broadening the scope and functionality of a Programmable Logic Controller with new processing algorithm is achieved by integrating it with MATLAB/Simulink. Detecting design errors early and reducing physical prototyping time & cost is major concern of complex control systems. A remedy for this problem is Automatic Code Generation, which makes it possible to quickly & easily transform sophisticated Simulink based control systems into source code. The Automatically generated control system should be connected to the simulation environment to test the control algorithms on a real physical model. This connection is ensured via a general process visualization interface, which can transmit a data via different communication protocols. This paper shows real time implementation of remote communication between MATLAB/Simulink and PLC via Visualization Interface developed with B&R Automation Studio. Remote access is tested with VNC viewer.
