Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is a polypeptide hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. It is an essential element of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Biological stress is responsible to stimulate the release of ACTH from pituitary gland.
