Whiplash trauma is caused due to injury to the neck that occurs because of car accidents. It is very common in road accidents. In this there is sudden movement of the neck or hyperflexion or hyperextension of the neck. Due to this the neck muscles suffer injury and hence neck pain is caused. Two types of injury may be caused due to this- cervical hyperextension or rapid deceleration. In the former one person body is moved forward in the accident and the head lags behind and occurs in accidents when the person vehicle is hit from the behind. If the extension occur maximum then it is called flexion. In the latter injury the person body is thrown forward and may result in neurological damage. Whiplash trauma may result in severe headache and trauma, ear noises and dizziness may also occur in some cases. Medication is required if the nerve injury occurs.
