Tissue engineers developed the strategy of repairing or replacing injured or diseased tissue in the human body. It aims at combining the cells with scaffolding materials invivo, in order to generate functional tissue structure. Tissue engineering came in to live action after emerging biomaterials designing and development of combining biologically active molecules, scaffolds, cells, into structured functional tissues. It mainly aims in assembling functional constructs that restore, maintain, or improve damaged tissues or organs. Artificial skin and cartilage are examples of tissue engineered products.
Tissue engineering plays prominent role in patientâs treatment. Mostly involved in small arteries, skin grafts, cartilage, full trachea have been implanted in patients, complex organ tissues like heart, lung, and liver tissue are regenerated in the experimental lab, and ready to implant into a patientâs body. There are also useful in the perspective of research orientation, especially in drug development. Any disease or trauma that may lead the person to suffer from critical defects in the body which cannot be cured by itself, but it can be healed by using a combination of bioactive molecules, cells, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine helps to achieve functional restoration of vital parts of the body using living cells.
