The fusion of male and female gametes is defined as fertilization. Fertilization is an initial in the process of development of a new organism. Fertilization that occurs within the body of female organisms is called as natural fertilization.

Now-a-days, infertility is the major proplems in women. For this reason,  an artificial method of fertilization called in-vitro fertilization has been developed which is a boon for couples who have infertility problems.

In IVF, the male gamete, sperm and the female gamete, ovum are fertilized outside the body in lab conditions.
