The fly Drosophila melanogaster is one of the most intensively studied organisms in biology and serves as a model system for the investigation of many developmental and cellular processes common to higher eukaryotes, including humans. The gene expression response to cadmium stress in Drosophila, it provides insights into the mechanisms of this response, and it could contribute to understanding of cadmium toxicity in humans. Transient expression in D. melanogaster S2 cells is a practical way of synthesizing RVGP for use in structural and functional studies.
