Bayesian approach

Bayesian approaches term is used in behavioural sciences and neuroscience and studies related with this approach strive to explain the brain's cognitive abilities based on statistical principles. It is assumed that the nervous system maintains internal probabilistic models that are updated by neural processing of sensory information using methods approximating those of Bayesian probability. Key characteristics of Bayesian systems are integrating information making rational use of uncertainty, applying prior knowledge in the interpretation of new observations, and are very effective learners. Well-known psychological phenomena including visual illusions, categorical perception and attention can be understood in terms of Bayesian inference.
