River Discharge and Factors Affecting River Discharge

River discharge is the volume of water passing  through a measuring point or gauging station in a river at a given time. It is measured in cubic metres per second . The overall discharge from the drainage basin depends on the relationship between preciptiation and storage factors and  this can be analyzed by the following formula:

Drainage basin discharge = precipitation - evapo-transpiration  ±  changes in storage

The factors affecting the river discharge are as follows

1)  Rock and soil type

2)  Weather conditions

3) Type and amount of Rainfall

4) Type of land

5) Slope of area
