Sub Surface or Under Ground Drainage

A sub surface or underground drainage system removes excess soil water. It percolates the drain into themselves, same as the open drains. These underground drains provides a great advantages that the surface of the field is not cut off, there is no wastage of land and it do not interfere with farm operations. Subsurface drainage is used where the soil is permeable enough to allow economical spacing of the drains and productive enough to justify the investment. A subsurface drain will provide trouble-free service for many years as long as it is carefully planned, properly installed, and constructed using high-quality materials.

Underground drains may be classified as:

1.      Pipe or tile drain

2.      Box model drains

3.      Rubble (coarse stones or gravels filled) drains

4.      Mole drains and

5.      Use of pumps for drainage.
