Mercury association with autoimmune diseases in women

Mercury is common element found in various forms. Mercury after coming in contact with environment combines with other elements to form inorganic or organic compound. If these compounds are absorbed in higher amounts can cause brain damage and kidney damage.


Researchers found that mercury can be a cause for autoimmune diseases among women. Autoimmune diseases are characterized by higher level of antibodies found in methylmercury a compound found in fish in reproductive-age women. Methylmercury is an organic compound formed with the help of microorganisms when mercury enters the water or soil.


Mercury subjection damages the nervous system and it proves to be more harmful for developing fetus. Mercury exposure in high amount is hazardous for health especially for women carrying child as it passes to fetus causing developmental problems.
