Melanogenesis and skin lightening

The process by which skin produces melanin is called as melanogenesis. Melanocytes are the pigment producing cells that are found in the outermost layer of skin. Most of the skins lightening products are mainly focused on natural melanin production and skin lightening. The cosmetics that focus on skin lightening and depigmenting works on the mechanistic skin-lightening targets. Great advancements in pigment biology and skin lightening had revolutionized the cosmetic industry last decade. These researches have led to development of more effective and safer and skin-lightening ingredients with many of them directly targeting the tyrosinase pathway and rate-limiting enzyme of melanogenesis.
