Fungal infection of nails is a common health problem which can be difficult to treat. The majority of people don’t seek treatment because very few of them recognize the effect of the infection. People having onychomycosis are affected more commonly with toenails infection than fingernails. The groups of fungi which is also responsible for this disease is Candida albicans and are also known as dermatophytes there has been increase in the cases of onychomycosis infection and an increase in foreign travel has led to the introduction of some exotic species of candida genus . In addition, species that were previously thought to be non-pathogenic may now occur as pathogens in patients with immune system deficiency, such as those with AIDS or leukemia. Onychomycosis can be fatal in patients with a deficient immune system if the fungus infects tissue surrounding the nail and gains entry into the body.
