Nursing ethics is a branch of applied ethics that concerns itself with activities in the field of nursing. Nursing ethics shares many principles with medical ethics, such as beneficence, non-maleficence and respect for autonomy. Nurses also must respect the cultural beliefs and values of others. The Code of Ethics and the Nurse Practice Act (NPA) are very good guidelines for how nurses should behave, but these documents are not specific. Ethics in nursing is something which encompasses individual interpretation. It is based on individual morals and values.
