New Study revealed that presence of two tumor specific proteins such as aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and perilipin-2 (PLIN2) in substantial levels in urine may help in detecting renal cell carcinoma. Urine samples from 720 patients are analyzed who are undergoing routine abdominal computed tomography with 19 patients confirming renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and 80 healthy controls.
Conclusion was Urine AQP1 and PLIN2 concentrations were significantly more in the RCC group than in the healthy controls and in the main screening population. Hence Aquaporin-1 and Perpilin-2 may be used as Biomarkers in early diagnosis and detection of renal cell carcinoma.
