Bunkie Test: Core Muscular Endurance

Bunkie test, a functional performance test generally consisting of 5 test positions (performed bilaterally), has been used to know key aspects of muscular function. The ‘Bunkie’ is used to assess ‘locked-long’ fascia (Rolfing terminology) and the Stretch test identifies fascia ‘locked-short’ on the 3 main power muscles. The 5 lines are: Posterior power line; Anterior power line; Posterior stabilizing line; Lateral stabilizing line; Medical stabilizing line.

The test is carried out on a bench 25-30cm high. The athlete lifts the body up into neutral position, and then takes the foot off one foot to test the specific fascia line. The position is held for 20-40s depending on the athlete. The technique used is based on Rolfing.
