Symbiotic legume nodules are classified as determinate or indeterminate depending on the persistence of nodule meristem. This review compares and contrasts the roles of different plant hormones during the development of these two types of nodules. Cytokinins promote the formation of both types of nodules while ethylene and abscisicacid inhibit them. Interestingly auxin, jasmonic acid, gibberellic acid and brassinolides appear to distinctly influencethe two types of nodules.
