Civic Entrepreneurship in Politics

Since the start of the Arab Spring, the most obvious displays of civic entrepreneurship have related to political and social issues. Across the region, people have organized in various forms, often spontaneously, to advocate and lobby for changes to laws, to protest against actions by transitional governments, and to push for social awareness on a variety of issues. Whatever their forms or origins, these initiatives have brought people together from various walks of life for the sole purpose of tackling specific issues. Prior to these experiences, many of these individuals had little to no training in political mobilization. By participating in these projects, they developed these skills while also transforming in other ways. Many discovered an unexpected sense of investment in their country’s future, met people they would not have otherwise come across, and found their own distinct voice among the teeming crowds.
