California flying fish (Cypselurus californicus) is a local species found from southern California south to Baja California. This has been rarely seen as far north as Oregon. This large flying fish can be up to about 18 inches in length. The pectoral fins are quite large and when folded reach beyond the dorsal fin. The lower part of the tail is almost twice as long as the upper part. This life form is marine and found only in salt water. This life form is locally common.
