Transport infrastructure is one of the areas of recurrent expenditure for the government of any nation. In sub-Saharan Africa, for every one kilometer of road rehabilitated, an estimated three kilometers of road fall into disrepair, leading to a net deterioration in the total road network. The performance of the Nigerian road sector has not been satisfactory despite its enormous potentials for growth and development. Traditionally, the poor transport facilities and infrastructure have severely delayed economic development which weakened transport infrastructure and contributed negatively to attempts to alleviate poverty in the country.
