The Effect of Metal Fibers and Borax Powders

The use of various materials in brake pad compositions has been widely studied. In this study, borax powders or copper or bronze fibers were added in non-asbestos organic brake pad composition to examine the effects of additive type and quantity on friction and wear characteristic of brake pads. Firstly, three different specimen groups were developed by powder metallurgy method that contains various amounts of borax powder, copper fiber and bronze fiber by weight. The mixtures were blended with an industrial type mixer, pressed, and then they were post-sintered. After the Chase Machine friction-wear tests, friction surfaces of the specimens were analyzed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and then hardness tests were performed (
