Impact factor can be defined as a measure of journal average citations of a journal which in turn highlights the readability and importance of the journal in a particular field. Impact factor is validated and given by Institute of scientific information. This is considered as an indirect value that defines journals standards and quality. The practice of calculating impact factor started in the year of 1975 and is continued till now. Since citation is the only mandate for defining the impact factor, there are several controversies going on regarding this.
