Immunogenetics is the branch of medical research that defines the relationship between the immunity to disease system and make up. The study of immunogenetics involves the pathogenesis of chronic inflammation, infectious and autoimmune diseases. Immunogenetics is made of two terms immunology and genetics. Immunology deals with the biochemical and biological basis for the body's defense against foreign agents such as biological toxins and environmental pollutants germs such as bacteria, virus and mycosis (fungal infections) and genetics deals with the genes of an organism (strands of DNA) and the transfer of genes from the parent to the child generation of an organism in the scope of possible variations The term immungenetics involves all processes of an organism, which are controlled and influenced by the genes of the organism, and are also significant with regard to the immunological defense reactions of the organism.
In immunogenetics the main focus is the treatment of autoimmune disease. Scientists are exploring this field, that includes scanning the human genome and their mapping and then comparing genes. This comparison can be used to treat certain complications of the disease like children having complication of diabetes, such as blindness. They are also working towards genetically altering the cells that serve as "gatekeepers" to the bodys immune system and then eliminating the need for anti-rejection drugs in the cases of certain transplants.
