Cytotechnology can be defined as the microscopic interpretation of cells for the detection of cancer and other abnormalities. It basically examines collected from the uterine cervix (Pap test), lung, gastrointestinal tract or body cavities. These specimens are evaluated by Cytotechnologists on glass slides using microscopes to determine whether the specimen is normal or abnormal. The abnormal specimens are further sent for medical diagnosis. Cytotechnologists examine the microscopic slides, and mark cellular changes that indicate disease and submit a report to the pathologist for final consideration.
