Cytology can be defined as a branch of science which deals with the study of structure and function of cells at its microscopic level. It basically deals with diagnoses of diseases and the examination of tissue samples taken from the body. These examinations are basically carried out on body fluids such as blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid or aspirated fluid through the suction using syringe from the body. The cytological specimens are usually scraped out from the tissue or specific body parts such as Pap smear. Then these prepared specimens is spread over glass slides and stained followed by visualization under the microscope for viewing the individual cells, to analyze their shape, structure, formation and the function. These tests are basically done for the cancerous cells and to identify any viral infections.
