Exercise physiologists study the effect of exercise on pathology and mechanisms that exercise can reduce or reverse disease progression. Exercise physiologists work to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease in healthy participants or to provide therapeutic or functional benefits to patients with known disease. The mission of exercise physiology is to promote health and quality of life through the use of appropriate physical activity and lifestyle behaviors.
