Genetically modified foods have genes which are copied from the other plants or animals inserted into their genetic material. GM foods at present available on the universal market have passed risk assessments and are not liable to present risks for human health. Also, it is demonstrated that there are no impacts on human health as a consequence of the consumption of such GM foods by the general population in the nations where they have been approved. Continuous use of risk assessments dependent upon the Codex principles and, where appropriate, including post market sector observing, should form the basis for evaluating the safety of GM foods.
